Bay Guardians:

Where Every Community Member Can Be a Lifesaver!

Our revolutionary community-based program trains ordinary citizens to recognize warning signs and take action. As a Guardian, you'll:

• Complete brief but impactful training

• Access comprehensive veteran resource guides

• Pledge to actively watch for veterans in need

• Use social media, networking, and personal connections to save lives

The mission is urgent and simple: We train everyday heroes to recognize veterans in crisis and CONNECT them to hope.

Peer Guardians:

Veterans supporting veterans—same training, same commitment, deeper understanding.

The Bay Area Veterans Suicide Prevention Network incorporates training and networking as powerful tools to help all of us help our Veterans in need. On completion of a training program Guardians are able to provide support and assistance to Veterans in need and in crisis. These are not always the same thing.

Ideally Veterans in need will be identified before they are in crisis. The Network provides access to multiple programs for Veterans, including counseling, housing assistance, drug and alcohol abuse programs, therapeutic activities and social connection that all help Veterans live fuller, richer lives. Connecting those in need before the crisis point is key in reducing the suicide rates that are driven by despair, isolation, hopelessness and pain.

Guardians interact with the Veteran populations and volunteer in the programs, identifying possible at risk Veterans and providing guidance and information on help that is available.

Guardian Certification Training is available at in person workshops and online. Training takes approximately 1 hour. Recertification is offered annually to remain active in the Guardian Program.
